First-Year Students Get Acquainted with the Opportunities of the Scientific Library

From September 1 to 4, orientation tours were held at the Scientific Library for first-year students. As part of the meetings, first-year students became acquainted with the work of the textbook lending service and reading rooms, learned about the rules for using library resources, and received answers to their questions.

During the tour, library specialists told the students about the procedure for obtaining textbooks, the specific features of working with the book collection, and the opportunities for using the resources of the reading rooms.

Particular attention was paid to the library’s modern digital resources. Information managers from the Department for Research Support demonstrated the capabilities of the MyLOF platform and provided an overview of the university’s information resources. The students registered on the platform and received practical recommendations on how to use the electronic catalog.

The specialists demonstrated how to effectively search for, select, and order the necessary literature through the electronic catalog, as well as how to find information required for the educational process using the library’s resources.

In addition, as part of the introduction to the university’s structural units, the students were presented with information about the activities of the Scientific Library, its information resources, and modern services. A. Baigabylova, the Chief Methodologist of the Library, spoke about the structure and operating procedures of the library, the rules for obtaining textbooks, and also introduced the students to the reading rooms, the American Corner, the Maker Space workshop, the library’s projects, and its official social media pages.

Thus, first-year students had the opportunity to become acquainted with both the traditional book collection and the modern digital resources and services of the Scientific Library. The tour became the first step for students toward the effective use of library and information resources in their educational and research activities.
