
History
The Scientific Library of the Eurasian National University, named after L.N. Gumilyov, was founded in 1962.
On 23 May 1996, the Eurasian National University, named after L.N.Gumilyov, was established by merging the Tselinograd Engineering and Construction Institute and the Tselinograd State Pedagogical Institute.
In 2001, on the basis of the scientific library of the university, the scientific centre «Otyrar Kitapkhanasy» was created in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 924 of July 6.
In 2009 the «Otyrar Kitapkhanasy» Centre was separated from the scientific library by the order of the Rector (№456 of 27.04.2009).
The mission of the Scientific Library is to provide documents and information for educational, research and training processes, as well as for the dissemination of knowledge, spiritual and intellectual communication.
The main functions of a research library:
- maximum integration into the teaching and research activities of the university;
- strengthening the scientific component of the fund;
- improving the technological infrastructure;
- creating a comfortable space and favourable working environment for working with information;
- developing the professional skills of library staff.
Library now:
- a complex of subscriptions, reading rooms, functional and specialised departments located in two buildings of the university;
- 8 structural subdivisions providing information and library services to users;
- electronic service system: remote search and ordering of literature, electronic reader's form, automated process of literature issue;
- reading rooms with open access to collections of educational, reference and scientific literature;
- electronic rooms with access to national and international databases, computers for users with Internet access;
- the possibility of remote library services;
- institutional repository;
- specially equipped places for students with special educational needs;
- comfortable environment for individual and group work;
- qualified staff.
The library has implemented an automation system based on RFID technology.
Comprehensive automation of the library on the basis of ALIS, the rapidly growing number of electronic resources predetermined the development of electronic services.

- services to support the research activities of teachers, master's and doctoral students;
- cultural and educational programmes (literary evenings and poetry meetings with authors, book presentations, traditional and virtual exhibitions, «Book Week»);
- educational and training events «Department Day», «Faculty Day», «Ask the librarian»;
- annual international conference «Modern world trends in the development of university libraries».
- professional development courses for library specialists.
The Scientific Library occupies a special place in the information and educational environment of the university. The library strives to become not only a holder of documents on the profile of the university, but also a real information centre, which provides its users with a full range of necessary information to support learning, creating comfortable conditions for searching and obtaining knowledge, conducting research work.
