Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts
The main areas of work of the department are:
- formation, organization and storage of funds, national spiritual values, which are related to literature, language, history, spiritual culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- restoration and preservation of documents, bibliographic description, organization and maintenance of the electronic catalogue.
Duties of the department:
- collection of rare books and manuscripts, valuable scientific publications;
- demonstration and promotion of the foundations;
- preparation of publications in the media;
- reflecting the collection in the catalogue and publishing indexes of manuscripts and rare books;
- advising readers on working with rare collections, providing conditions for research work for faculty, researchers, doctoral students, master's students and students;
- individual service of readers in accordance with their information needs and the rules of library use.
The department has rare books and manuscripts in kazakh, russian and other languages, audio-video, photo-documents and periodicals are collected.
The department has memorial libraries of outstanding scientists of Kazakhstan:
- Library of academician A. Margulan;
- Fund of the library of academician M. Karatayev;
- Manuscript fund of the writer S. Begalin;
- Museum-library of academicians S. Kirabaev and A. Beisenova (office 303);
- Fund of the library of academician R. Syzdykova;
- Fund of the library of professor T. Kakishev;
- Fund of the library of professor O. Nurmagambetova;
- Book fund of the writer-scientist A. Seydimbek;
- Library of professor T. Zhurtbai;
- Library of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany of H.D. Genscher;
- Book fund of academician D. Kamzabekuly.
On the 2nd floor of the main building of the scientific library there are «Hall of Alkei Margulan», «Hall of Akseleu Seydimbek».

READING ROOM № 2
Reading room № 2 of the main building of the library provides services according to the information needs of the readers and the rules of library use.
In this study hall, textbooks, scientific and fiction literature on all branches of knowledge are freely available. The study hall is divided into several zones:
An area of comfortable places for students to work, equipped with modern computers.
Books published under the state order, such as «Madeni mura», «Cultural Heritage», «Rukhani zhangyru», «Onegeli Omir», «Works of scientists of ENU», multi-volume collections of works of Kazakh writers and others.
In the «Relax» zone contains books selected as part of the «100 must-read books» project, as well as motivational and psychological books.
The computer workstation is designed for individual work.
In addition, there is a room available for discussions, activities and preparation for group sessions
