Information and resource center “American Corner and Maker Space Astana”
The Center is located in the main building of the scientific library (11 Pushkin St., office 307). The purpose of the American Corner is to organize intercultural exchange to strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries, to provide information about the USA, social development and social and cultural values of the people of the USA.It offers visitors a unique collection of books on the history and culture of the United States, works of classics and contemporaries, reference books and a film library.There is access to the full-text eLibraryUSA database, which contains a universal knowledge base of leading US universities. Here you can get advice on forms of education in the USA (EducationUSA).Discussion Club, Speaking Club, Speech Club, Video Film Club, Debate Clubs, etc. are run to improve spoken English skills. The MakerSpace technical lab area in the «Do-It-Yourself» format offers a 3D printer, computer programs, robotics, electronics, craft materials, and other tools for implementing creative scientific and technical ideas. Courses, trainings and masterclasses to improve technical skills are organised on an ongoing basis. By participating in the Center's cultural and educational programs, you can develop yourself as a volunteer, spend interesting and useful leisure time in an English-speaking environment, and make new friends in Kazakhstan and the USA.
