Open Access, as defined by the Budapest Initiative, is free, permanent, real-time, full-text access to scientific and educational materials on the Internet. Open Access provides the ability to freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, use for educational purposes, or legally use in other ways.
Open Access materials are used under various types of open licenses from Creative Commons, a non-profit organization under which creators and other copyright holders provide access to their original works of authorship and other materials.
